What is E-Visa?
An e-visa is a convenient way to obtain permission to enter Vietnam prior to travel. Since its launch in February 2017, the e-Visa program has become increasingly popular as it offers travelers a faster and more efficient alternative to traditional visa applications.
Enhanced e-Visa portal for hassle-free application
Since its launch in 2017, Vietnam's e-Visa system has evolved significantly, providing travellers from eligible countries with a convenient entry option. The Immigration Department, under the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security, has announced the debut of the enhanced e-Visa portal, which will be launched on 11 November 2024. This upgraded platform aims to streamline the application process with a user-friendly design and new access options.

Key requirements for applying for a Vietnam e-Visa
The new platform requires applicants to upload a passport photo and a scanned copy of the passport information page. To improve accuracy, the system compares the uploaded images with the passport information and automates parts of the e-visa form.
Visa options and length of stay
Visa options and length of stay in Vietnam. As of 15 August 2023, Vietnam has extended eVisa eligibility to citizens of all countries. Applicants can choose between:
- Single entry visa (US$25): allows entry into Vietnam only once during the validity period.
- Multiple entry visa (50 USD): Allows multiple entries into Vietnam during the validity period.
How long can I stay in Vietnam with an e-visa?
Great news! Previously, e-visas allowed a maximum stay of 30 days. The updated policy now extends this to 90 days, giving travellers more flexibility for longer stays and exploration.

In addition to the electronic visa, Vietnam also offers visa-free entry for citizens of 27 countries for 14 to 90 days, further facilitating travel. In addition, from mid-2023, Vietnam has extended visa-free stay to 45 days for citizens of 13 countries, including France, Germany, Japan, and the United Kingdom. Next is then visa-free entry for all nationalities for 30 days to Phu Quoc Island.
